Væksthuset in English

What works?

Væksthuset's collaboration with unemployed clients draws on a number of solid foundation stones, which we have developed since the very start of Væksthuset in 1992. We constantly seek to adjust and improve our collaboration with the clients according to our saying: "If it doesn't work, do something different." No matter what stories and challenges the clients are facing, they must have the possibility of testing and using their skills in the labour market. The foundation stones of Væksthuset are presented below.

Employment or an approach to the labour market

The focal point for our collaboration is always the ultimate goal: a job. But before getting that far, there may be several intermediate stations to pass and a number of barriers to overcome. We collaborate with our clients, from the first small steps towards the labour market to the last jump into a job. Therefore, clarification, motivation, training, relation building and empowerment are equally important features of the labour market qualifying programmes in Væksthuset.

Individual collaboration with the client

In Væksthuset, every programme is tailor-made to suit the qualifications and job possibilities of the individual. The programme is always shaped by our interaction with companies and authorities. The client is the centre of attention, and the job consultants co-ordinate the measures between the various actors engaged in the achievements of the client.

Collaboration with companies

Training, qualification and recruitment. The companies are the unchallenged experts when it comes to pointing out the job competences needed in a specific job. We need job consultants to render visible and draw attention to the resources and training needs of the client. That is why we collaborate with around 700 private and public companies that provide internships, workability testing or recruitment. Through internships, the client establishes a network which in the short or long term will contribute to the job achievements of the client. And the companies get the possibility of recruiting new employees.

Focus on resources and future prospects

In Væksthuset, we are not interested in the reasons for the clients' unemployment or what current or previous diagnoses they might have. The personal and professional challenges of the client only becomes interesting in the moment they get in the way of a concrete job wish. We draw on a variety of methods, tools and approaches that we constantly adjust and expand. Overall, we have a professional foundation that secures a progressive collaboration with the clients who appear to be the furthest away from the labour market.

Parallel sessions

It is not a requirement that clients are neither healthy, sober, free of medicine, without criminal records nor speak Danish fluently to collaborate with Væksthuset. If it appears that abuse or problems of e.g. psychological character cannot immediately be combined with a job, we offer to collaborate with the client on a parallel programme. The labour market qualifying programme takes place parallel to the treatment, language lessons, and course activities or other. We co-operate with education centres, treatment institutions, regional psychiatric centres, voluntary organisations, driving schools, language schools and various other resource centres.

Documentation

The employees at Væksthuset continouosly strive at making the documentation of the client programmes as exact and nuanced as possible. The keywords are: description, solutions and possibilities. We constantly assure the quality of the written reports aimed at the Jobcentres about the client programmes. Just as we evaluate our working methods and our ways of collaboration.

Knowledge and research

As part of our purpose as a commercial foundation, Væksthuset continually develops and carries out research into new initiatives within the area of specialised employment re-integration programmes in Denmark. We financially contribute to progressive co-operation with Jobcentres, the Labour Market Management, companies and other stake holders. Presentations, education and communication is part of our work.

International visits and collaborations

In Væksthuset we welcome approximately 2-3 representatives every month from various Danish employment re-integration programmes. But we are especially proud of our long-standing collaboration with international colleagues and stakeholders. Among others are the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, the Haag Town Council (NL), and employment re-integration services in Norway, Estonia and Hungary. The British Labour politician Hilary Armstrong has also paid Væksthuset a visit.
